Santa Claus is coming to town

For the last 15 years, the Playa Venice Sunrise Rotary Club has teamed up with local protectors to bring Santa and his team of elves to Westchester, Playa del Rey and Playa Vista.

This year, the club will be teaming up with Fire Station #5 and the LAPD sleigh to help spread holiday cheer to the community on Wednesday, December 17.

Stops will be marked with “Santa Stop” signs posted at each location. In case of rain, Santa will be at Fire Station #5, located at 8900 Emerson Ave. in Westchester, between 5 and 7 p.m. to pass out candy canes and collect Christmas lists.

This year’s stops include (times are approximate)
:

• 5:15 p.m.– Mid-block on Earldom Ave. between Redlands and Talbot

• 5:50 p.m.– West Bluffs’ Shore Cliff Drive cul-de-sac in Westchester

• 6:25 p.m.– Kentwood Ave. at 83rd Street and Westlawn Ave.

• 7 p.m.– Mid-block on De Haviland Ave. between Kittyhawk Ave. and Will Rogers Street

• 7:30 p.m.– Abernathy Dr. between 76th and 78th Streets off of Piper Ave. in Westport Heights

The LAPD Santa Tour that travels through the neighborhood took place on Monday, December 1 and Wednesday, December 3 this year.

Santa will also be making a special appearance in Westchester’s 16th Annual Holiday Parade. This year’s parade will take place on Sunday, December 14 starting at 2 p.m. Beginning at 12 p.m. activities and face painting will be available at Westchester park. The parade’s theme is “Spreading Cheer Around the World” and parade organizers will
 be collecting flip flops and sandals to donate to children and young adults in Guatemala.

Marching will begin on Manchester at Loyola Blvd. Entries will head east on Manchester to Emerson Avenue before looping around to end at Westchester Park.

Visitation School is giving families the opportunity to have dinner with Santa at its annual Deck The Halls event. Deck the Halls will take place on Friday, December 5 and families with pre-school age children are invited to attend.

At the free event, guests can also have their picture taken with Santa and participate in a Christmas carol sing-a- long.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Visitation auditorium, located at 8740 Emerson Ave. in Westchester. Parking is available in the school parking lot.

Santa will visit Marina del Rey’s Waterside Shopping Center’s on two days in December. Families can meet at the center’s fountain to participate in the festivities. On December 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. visitors to the Waterside will have a chance to meet Santa, enjoy Christmas music, play games and create a frosty lantern craft.

On December 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Santa will be back visiting the center, while guests enjoy a winter magic show and marionettes and have the opportunity to craft a milk and cookie mug to put out for Santa on Christmas morning.
