The Fourth of July Parade is back!

Jul 2, 2021

The LAX Coastal Chamber will host its 21st Annual Fourth of July Parade on Sunday, July 4th starting at 11:30 a.m.

This year’s theme is “Our National Treasures” and is a tribute to all the wonderful things that make up our community and country, as we begin to recover from the pandemic.

The parade committee was planning on holding a virtual event similar to last year’s Spirit Week festivities, before the state announced its June 15th reopening date. After getting that news, the committee quickly pivoted to planning the parade–condensing six months of planning to a month and a half.

“I am so excited to be reunited with the people of Westchester/Playa!” said LAX Coastal Chamber President/CEO Christina Davis. “While we didn’t have a lot of time to plan the event, and it was a bit more challenging to get our usual entries, we felt that the most important thing was coming back to together to celebrate our nation’s birthday.”

This year’s parade is scaled-down and will feature 31 entries versus the parade’s normal 50. Expect parade favorites like the Great Pyrenees, the 501st Legion and their Star Wars tribute and the calliope car, as well as floats from St. Anastasia School and Emerson Avenue Community Garden.

Serving as Grand Marshal are healthcare heroes from Cedars-Sinai, Providence St. Johns and Kaiser Permenente.

Pick up a July copy of the HomeTown News along the parade route for more information on this year’s event, the parade’s line of march, details on the Parade Photo Contest, a Westchester/Playa Trivia Challenge to play while you’re waiting for the parade to start and messages from parade sponsors.
