Get ready to show off your team working skills at the third Annual Westchester California Team Challenge at LMU! Put together a team of eight to 12 players and get ready for a morning filled with friendly competition and games between local community groups, businesses and neighbors. This year’s activities include bocce ball, football toss, hold the rope, kettleball relay and corn hole. Proceeds raised from the event will go toward supporting the Westchester Streetscape Improvement Association, which helps beautify the community. Head to the Westchester Elks Lodge for their 23rd Annual Car Show & Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, September 9 from 9 am to 3 pm. View the cool classic cars on display, vote for your favorite chili recipe and stick around for the BBQ, raffle and fun! Admission is free, and the lodge is located at 8025 W. Manchester Ave. in Playa del Rey.

The community is invited to learn about the plan to transform a portion of LAX Northside with new public sports and recreation facilities for the whole community. Stop by to meet the project team, ask questions and learn more about this exciting new project coming soon to the Westchester/Playa area! Kids activities and snacks will be provided.

Celebrate back to school with a Concert in the Park(ing) lot at Visitation! Stop by on September 15 from 5:30 to 9:30 pm for live music, DJ, food trucks and a beer & wine garden! Bring your friends, neighbors, blankets and low-back chairs and enjoy the festivities!

Bring the whole family to Fire Station #5 for September 16 from 8 to 11 am for a pancake breakfast! The event is hosted by the Playa Venice Sunrise Rotary Club and features pancakes with all the fixings, firefighting demos, a chance to chat with your neighbors, a bounce house, face painting and more! The cost for breakfast is $10 per person and kids under 2 eat for free. The firehouse is located at 8900 Emerson Ave. in Westchester.  

Summer wouldn’t be complete without attending the Westchester Arts & Music Block Party (WAM)! This end of summer blast features a full day of entertainment from live bands and community dance groups. Get a prime viewing spot at the Stephanie Younger Group-sponsored beer & wine garden, and make sure to visit all the vendors selling their art and wares. In between the vendors, you’ll also find more than a dozen community groups hosting giveaways, photo booths, crafts and other activities. Food from a variety of trucks, including Cousin’s Maine Lobster, Hart House, Dulce Europa and more will be available for purchase. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Westchester Family YMCA. Join WPV (Westside Pacific Villages) and Natalie Noel, the Heavenly Mist Death Doula for a Creating your Legacy workshop. During the event, expert speakers will share valuable insights on building a meaningful legacy. Topics will include advance healthcare directives, wills and trusts, finances, life insurance and long-term care insurance, how to talk to your loved ones about death and dying, funeral and memorial planning, and more. There is a $15 recommended donation at the door. This program is offered complimentary for WPV members.
